A quick challenge to use acknowledgment to make someone's day more awesome...most likely your own! Owning our inner authority is about connecting with and trusting our inner knowing and intelligence, and acting with courage an confidence from that place of honoring ourselves as the #1 authority in our own lives. I sat down with my sister, Executive Coach Amy Arthur Packer, to talk about how we accessed our inner authority in different stages of our lives, how we personally connect to it today, and how we work with clients to strengthen inner authority in our coaching practices. I have always been a freedom junkie. Rules and limits are not really my thing. I also really love wine and delicious food. Finding that balance between freely choosing and enjoying what feels good in the moment and freeing my body from that which drags on my energy is my over 40 freedom challenge. Clarity, creativity and energy to do my best work in the world is the freedom that matters most to me now. Mike and I just finished the Whole 30, a month of eating whole, super nutritious food. It’s not all that different from how we typically eat, but it has helped us break free from some habitual patterns. I managed my resistance to the limits on substance by preserving the associated rituals of pleasure. It just so happens that this Meyer lemon probiotic tonic tastes like a lemon drop martini. It’s like spring in a glass. A nice walk, a leisurely debrief of our days over “mocktails” while preparing food that is beautiful and satisfying is a nourishing way to end the day that does not feel limiting. We will go out and celebrate tonight with a real cocktail and perhaps less healthy dinner, but intend to move forward with some new approaches. As I begin to clean the old, dead, debris out of my gardens I know that I’m creating space for the fresh, new growth of spring. Late winter tends to be a blah time for me because I tend to hold on to emotional debris that is no longer supporting me. I am understanding through experience how releasing tension in the body helps the mind to let go as well. Moving, stretching and noticing where the energy gets stuck are the best ways to shift and support my inner landscape. As debris is cleared, light streams in. Creativity and enthusiasm begin to flow like sap in the trees and new possibilities emerge with the green of spring. A little bit of self care goes a long way, and is especially important during the transition between seasons. Introducing more movement is something to try if your "sap" is moving slowly. Our first shiitakes, fruited this fall from logs inoculated with friends on Easter, 2016. For 18 months we watered and watched this little log pile, seeded with spores and hope, unsure when or if the fruits of our labor would emerge while all the while a vibrant mycelium network bursted with invisible possibility just beneath the surface. This happens often in life. We work to bring our hopes and dreams into fruition....and then we wait....and wait. There is always creative potential happening just under the surface. Even as it begins to feel like nothing is moving forward....it is always possible for more to unfold in the mystery of time. May the seeds of all my intentions be clear & loving, and tended with such hope, care, and endless patience. |
