I have always been a freedom junkie. Rules and limits are not really my thing. I also really love wine and delicious food. Finding that balance between freely choosing and enjoying what feels good in the moment and freeing my body from that which drags on my energy is my over 40 freedom challenge. Clarity, creativity and energy to do my best work in the world is the freedom that matters most to me now. Mike and I just finished the Whole 30, a month of eating whole, super nutritious food. It’s not all that different from how we typically eat, but it has helped us break free from some habitual patterns. I managed my resistance to the limits on substance by preserving the associated rituals of pleasure. It just so happens that this Meyer lemon probiotic tonic tastes like a lemon drop martini. It’s like spring in a glass. A nice walk, a leisurely debrief of our days over “mocktails” while preparing food that is beautiful and satisfying is a nourishing way to end the day that does not feel limiting. We will go out and celebrate tonight with a real cocktail and perhaps less healthy dinner, but intend to move forward with some new approaches.
